EMC, Intel, VMware team up to improve cloud computing security

RSA a security branch of EMC, has announced its vision with Intel and VMware for building a more secure and transparent infrastructure for business critical cloud services.

RSA, Intel, VMware and Archer technologies have demonstrated their vision for a trusted cloud infrastructure that delivers operational benefits for organisations and service providers running private clouds.

The companies said the new concept would help to provide a greater vision into the bottom most layers of the cloud. It would also help provide finer controls to enforce separate policies in private clouds, streamline compliance by automating processes for analysis and reporting on infrastructure level activity.

The foundation of this new computing infrastructure is a hardware derived from Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT), which authenticates at every stage of the boot process, from verifying hardware configurations and initialising the BIOS to launching the hypervisor.

Once launched VMware’s virtualisation environment begins to collect data from the hardware and virtual layers and begins to feed a continuous raw data feed to the RSA enVision platform.

RSA envision is designed to analyse events coming through the virtual layer and identify any incidents or conditions that will affect security.

This information is then handled by the Archer Smart Suite Framework, which helps present a unified policy based assessment of the organisations security and compliance through the central dashboard.

Reportedly, RSA Security Briefs are designed to provide security leaders with guidance on pressing information security risks and opportunities. Each security brief is created by a select response team of experts who mobilise across organisations to share knowledge on a critical emerging topic.

Pat Gelsinger, president and chief operating officer of EMC Information Infrastructure Products, said: “For the cloud to mature into an enterprise-grade platform running high-value business processes and data, we must be able to trust the security of the underlying physical and virtual infrastructure without question.”
