Cloud Services

Many people still see cloud computing as the latest in a long line of industry buzz words and perennial hype that will spark and fizzle out by the wayside.
However recent studies put forward by Gartner and other industry analysts suggest that cloud computing is set for exponential growth over the next few years. Indeed some of the largest names in the industry, like Microsoft, Google and Oracle are currently buying up more data centre capacity in preparation for expanding their platforms to offer customers software and services directly via the cloud.
There are several different ways that these companies will look to deliver cloud services to the market; each has its particular benefits to different users...
Software cloud
The cloud computing industry is divided into three main methods of delivery; the first is the application based cloud model that offers readymade software delivery or software as a service (SaaS). The advantages of the SaaS model include rapid simple implementation, reduction of asset CAPEX as the systems and servers are already up and running and configured with software. This system is particular easy to implement, all you need do is add in your data and list of users and you are ready to go.
Platform cloud
Is considered an environment for developers to instigate their own web based applications and services. The main advantage of this being that developers have a platform from which to develop their programs, without the need to get involved with the expense and hassle of maintaining and scaling hardware.    This instantly scalable system means that developers can expect a reduction in hardware costs and a more flexible environment from which to operate.
Infrastructure cloud
The other board interpretation of cloud computing is Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
This model appeals to vendors as it offers them the opportunity to build bespoke solutions to create unique solutions to businesses needs. Infrastructure clouds are similar to hosted clouds, except that they offer a greater flexibility, giving the user the chance to create a real virtual data centre. For the user there is also significantly lower CAPEX and the ability to scale quickly and painlessly. This model is often more quantifiable in terms of costs as processing power, data storage and connectivity are all measurable.
